HOWLING: Writing Away The Dark

2 Jan 2023

January is also known as the ‘wolf month’ and is often a time of retreat, hibernation, and rest. We look for ways to keep out the dark and make way for the light. To help with this transition For Books’ Sake are introducing HOWLING: Writing Away the Dark – a daily prompt series with weekly online drop in sessions.

These inspiring prompts have been especially harvested from the extraordinary writers we have worked with over the last year as well as co-directors Jo Flynn and Bridget Hart. So if you’ve been to any of our other workshops and loved it, this is the perfect place to cosy up and invest in your writing practice together.

Shake off the cold and get writing with imaginative, mindful and meaningful guidance, with the opportunity to come together as a pack each Sunday. The chilled-out drop in sessions are designed to give and receive feedback on any work generated from the prompts during the week. We will also provide a digital space to share and comment on your writing should you wish to do so.

Howling prompts will arrive in your inbox every weekday from Monday 2nd January. Our drop in sessions will run every Sunday until 29th.

The Details

WHEN: 2nd – 29th January. You decide when and where to do each day’s tasks and – if you’re not available every day – you can work through the materials at your own pace. From Monday – Friday each week you will receive a new prompt. Each Sunday we will have a drop-in session on zoom for you to pop in and share some work, get some feedback or just touch base!

WHERE: The programme takes place entirely online via emails delivered direct to your inbox each day throughout January. So – wherever you are in the world – we’d love to have you involved. Weekly Zoom sessions take place on Sundays 4-6pm.

WHO: Writers wanting to develop their creative confidence, motivation and momentum. The daily prompts and resources can support you to develop standalone poems or stories, or combined to develop something longer, exploring new topics, techniques and themes along the way. Although aimed at those writing fiction or poetry, the materials could also be used for those wanting to explore other genres too.

Wherever you’re at in your writing journey, HOWLING will support you to develop, explore and strengthen your creative courage, passion and build a community of likeminded souls.
