The first time I ever had a piece of my writing published was with For Books’ Sake. At the time, I was an undergraduate Creative Writing student. I had no experience with submitting and publishing my writing, and I had very little confidence that my work would be accepted by actual working writers and editors, people who, I was sure, would be able to see my youth and inexperience immediately and would never actually publish my work. I am grateful to the For Books’ Sake community for a number of reasons: giving me the confidence to continue pursuing publication for my work, supporting growing writers — especially those, like myself, who are queer and trans — and using the platform and resources they have in service to their community.
