About Claire Askew

Claire Askew

Claire Askew started out her writing life as a poet: her debut poetry collection, This changes things, was published in 2016 by Bloodaxe Books.  Claire’s poems have been twice shortlisted for the Edwin Morgan Poetry Award, and This changes things was shortlisted for a Saltire Award for Best First Book in 2016.  She’s also a novelist, and her debut novel-in-progress was longlisted for the 2014 Bridport Novel Award and won the 2016 Lucy Cavendish Fiction Prize.  Claire is also a Scottish Book Trust New Writers Award winner and was selected as a 2016 Scottish Book Trust Reading Champion.  She holds a PhD in Creative Writing and Contemporary Women’s Poetry from the University of Edinburgh.
