Censorship is an issue of control. Certain ideas make book-banners worry because they threaten the censors' control over their world view and control over their childrens' world view. Please keep writing books, Meg, that shake the snowglobe. Let children see many world views before they have to choose their own.

I picked up Anna Percy's zines at Afflecks and they are absolutely knockout. I'll let you have my copies in March (or they might have copies at Three Minute Theatre)

This sounds wicked. I'm not normally one for historical fiction but the feminist/queer theory makes it more appealing. I'll keep an eye out for it.

Thanks for this brilliant review, Laura, I knew Emma Donoghue knew her stuff when it came to queer and feminist history, but I didn't know she'd ever incorporated it into her fiction.

Sounds like this one was long overdue a UK publisher, can't wait to get my mitts on a copy!

You asked a lot of hard & thoughtful questions there, and they were pretty well answered I think, especially on disability & sickness.

Thanks Dan-I met you at a poetry thing once with the fabulous Katelan Fosiy, don't know if you remember!
Thanks Cath!I see what you mean about the men in Twilight-but I can't help feeling that the werewolf thing still feels like a bit of an afterthought-like,how can we add a special effectsy dimension to the story to keep it going? The first book is the only one where I felt anything for any of the characters, because the whole, 'should I get with the guy I really fancy but might eat me, or the safe guy next door' thing is sort of understandable. If they both might eat you, then the whole allegory is a bit lost...
