Tattoo Tuesday: Danielle’s T. S. Eliot Tattoo

Our latest Tattoo Tuesday is from Danielle, who lives in Maryland. It’s a quote from T. S. Eliot‘s poem, The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. Danielle explains:
“This is my third tattoo and definitely my largest, by Brett Burnham at Electric Tattoo in Pasadena. I had known for a while that I wanted something from The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. I came across the poem in college and fell in love with the imagery and the meaning behind it.
It’s a cautionary tale about not letting life pass you by and how suffocating regret can be, which I think is so important to remember. I chose the quote “Do I dare disturb the universe?” because I think this perfectly summarizes the poem’s meaning and I want a constant reminder to always live life to the fullest.
I chose tea cups because of the imagery of “tea and toast” and I chose black-eyed susans for the flowers because I think they are gorgeous and they’re also the state flower of Maryland.”
For more from Danielle, take a peek at her blog or her Flickr photostream. Or if you’ve got a literary tattoo you’d love to see featured on For Books’ Sake, email us with a photo telling us when, where and why you got it done. You could be our next Tattoo Tuesday!
