Five-Minute Friday: ReeRee Rockette
Name: ReeRee Rockette
Day job: Rockalily Lipstick (selling lippies and blogging)
Extra-curricular: I’m not sure I have enough spare time! Meeting my friends in a local pub, or reading while drinking in a coffee shop are my top two favourite things to do!
Favourite book of all time: Such a tricky one. I adore the act of reading, more than I adore one book in particular, but at the moment I’d say The Hunger Games.
An odd choice perhaps, particularly as it’s now becoming the ‘cool’ book to read due to the film coming out.
I read it first about two years ago when I was a Secondary School Librarian. A teen bullied me into reading it, and it reminded me what I love so much about reading.
It sucked me in instantly, challenged me (I thought I didn’t like action books), excited me and made me want to share it.
I have seen it transform non-reading teens into readers, and I constantly pimp it out to adult friends too.
Literary pet peeve: Films. Can’t they write their own original scripts anymore? Leave my favourite books alone.
Guilty pleasure: Coffee from coffee shops. Getting tattooed.
Three favourite authors: Roald Dahl because he creates readers. John Irving because he has such an original writing style. Rather controversially, Enid Blyton, because she played such a huge role in my reading history – I devoured her books as a young girl.
Favourite fictional characters: I feel oddly sad I don’t know the answer to this one…..
Other recommended reading: A Prayer for Owen Meany (John Irving), The Scheme for Full Employment (Magnus Mills), Private Peaceful (Michael Morpurgo), Pour Your Heart Into It (Howard Schultz), Inventing the Victorians (Matthew Sweet), The Rights of the Reader (Daniel Pennac), and Love that Dog (Sharon Creech).
