Five-Minute Friday: Sara Westrop
Day job: Studio Writer/Freelance writer
Extra-curricular: BUFFY! COMICS! ROLLERDERBY! I also have an unhealthy obsession with Britcoms, namely: Spaced, Red Dwarf, Black Books, Green Wing & The Mighty Boosh. I have to confess I’ve become a crazy cat lady recently; I have two (Tim & Daisy) and have just realised nearly every photo I’ve taken in the last two months are of them sleeping. I also enjoy cooking and baking tasty treats – but of course, in a suitably feminist way…
I’ve also been working day and night to help set up Hayena Studios, a new creative studio focusing on producing graphic novels, animation and short films.
Favourite book of all time: The Hobbit. My Dad used to read it to me when I was ickle, so it has a special place in my heart.
Literary pet peeves: Badly written stereotypes for female characters…ugh!
Guilty pleasure: Anything by Georgette Heyer! But if I had to choose it would be Regency Buck. My horrendously guilty pleasure is Justina Robson’s Lila Black series…she’s a kick-ass cyborg who dates a rock star elf!
Three favourite authors: Terry Pratchett, Georgette Heyer, Angela Carter
Favourite fictional character: Samuel Vimes! I want to be a member of the Night Watch.
Other recommended reading: Some of my favourite comics/graphic novels I’d urge anyone to read are: Starstruck by Elaine Lee, Grandville by the wonderful Bryan Talbot, Demo (vol. 1&2) by Brian Wood & Becky Cloonan and the Fables series by Bill Willingham.
