Rich Neeley Book iPod Docks

The debates are still raging fiercely over whether we should be sticking to books and CDs (or tapes, or vinyl…),  or shaking off the piles of things to which we are so attached and embracing the digital future of iPods and Kindles. Rich Neeley Designs have provided their own answer in the form of a beautiful range of compromises.

“It looks like a mild-mannered stack of books on a table or a desk, you almost don’t notice that it’s a charger” is the official line. “No more dropping the cord behind the desk!”

There are a whole host of different titles and colours available – works by Dante, Proust and Shakespeare have all been whisked into the twenty-first century. Austen is available, as are the Brontë sisters.

And if using The Odyssey to charge your mobile phone feels too much like sacrilege, take your pick instead from a vintage cookbook, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, or a series of obscure titles chosen purely for their striking covers.

Unlike many gimmicks, these chargers are reliable as well as glamorous. The charging cord is well secured into the book and it’s designed to be compatible with both iPods and iPhones, accommodating sync and charge functions via a USB cable.

They’re great. I mean seriously great. And completely nuts! What next, I wonder? A Kindle charger firmly secured within a pile of CDs? I think I may have found my niche…

Rich Neeley book charging docks for iPhone and iPod cost from £27, and are available via Etsy.
