Five-Minute Friday: Rachel Kaye
Day job: Arts Admin at Theatre in the Mill/Gallery II, University of Bradford
Extra-curricular: Writer of Footsteps in the Dark zine and blog, lazy curator, mix tape fiend. Boring people to death effusing about 90’s riot grrrl. Currently helping out a bit with Bradford Zine Fayre. I also wrote for Toast and Jam (an eating disorder survival zine) when I was very wee.
Favourite book of all time: ouch. The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy (today)
Literary pet peeves: Using post –modernism as an excuse not to write any ending for your book. Come on people, make an effort!
Guilty pleasure: Disappearing into the romance of Jane Austen
Three favourite authors: Audre Lorde, Sylvia Plath, Jeanette Winterson
Favourite fictional character: A toss up between Molly Bolt (Rubyfruit Jungle) and Woolf’s Orlando
Other recommended reading: Riot Grrrl: Revolution Girl Style Now (Ed. Nadine Monem), Aint I a Woman (Bell Hooks), Gender Trouble (Judith Butler), Stone Butch Blues (Leslie Feinburg), Below Critical Radar (Teal Triggs), Without a Net (Michelle Tea), Going to Meet the Man (James Baldwin)
