For Books’ Sake Presents: Books & Blues in London

If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll already know about our recent night of Books & Blues at Chorlton Arts Festival in Manchester. But what you might not know is that ever since we first announced that event way back in April, lit-loving Londoners have been asking us when we’ll be coordinating a similar shindig down South.

So, by popular demand, For Books’ Sake Presents: Books & Blues is back. On Sunday 19th June, we’ll be having an afternoon and evening (3pm until 9pm) of live music, storytelling and spoken word at The Fox in Lewisham.

A gorgeous South-Eastern boozer with a beautiful beer garden (where we’ll be having our event if the sun’s shining on the day) and notoriously cheap bar prices, there’s been plenty of For Books’ Sake scheming done in The Fox, so it seems only fitting that we have at least one shindig there in our hectic summer events programme, and this one promises to be laidback literary loveliness itself.

We’ll have live music from Siobhan Parr, John Fairhurst (last seen on For Books’ Sake being swooned over by Jess earlier this year), Verity Flecknell and more, plus storytelling from two past For Books’ Sake contributors: Vanessa Woolf from London Dreamtime and 3:AM co-editor Kerry Ryan.

Want to get involved? Come along with a book you love and you might be able to take to the stage and read us an excerpt from it. There’ll be zines for sale from Fat Quarter and Alpha Betty, and the first twenty-five will get a free copy of The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood (three months late, but our World Book Night books finally made an appearance!). Entry is £3.

The Fox is located at 316 Lewisham High Street, SE13 6JZ. A mere five minutes walk from Ladywell BR, or five minutes on the bus from Lewisham BR/DLR.
