Five-Minute Friday: Steven Watson
Name: Steven Watson
Day job: Used bookstore manager; student; husband, father.
Extracurricular: I keep a blog about books, fitness, politics, and whatever: Living in Sneakers.
Favourite book of all time: I don’t have a favourite of all time… because it changes all the time. Right now I am reading So Yesterday by Scott Westerfeld. Can that be my favourite?
Literary pet peeve: Writers who attain Legend status, but don’t deserve it because they refuse to give back. J.D. Salinger, anyone?
Guilty Pleasure: People magazine, crime fiction.
Three favourite authors: Sherman Alexie, Toni Morrison, Jacquelyn Mitchard… can I admit that I often let Oprah Winfrey tell me what to read?
Favourite fictional character: Probably Pilate from Toni Morrison‘s Song of Solomon. She loved and forgave everyone.
Other recommended reading: Young Adult books. I encourage everyone reading this to read at least five this year to help you be more empathetic towards young people. This world’s not easy for them. Also The Economist for non-hysterical political commentary.

Methinks Mr Watson has a touch of Rufus Wainwright about him in this photo, certainly in the upper face.
Used bookstore manager? With all those books lying around to tempt you, how do you ever get any work done?
