For Books’ Sake Lending Library at Nexus Art Cafe

It’s been another hectic weekend for us here at For Books’ Sake! On Friday, we had a night of Books & Blues as part of Chorlton Arts Festival (keep an eye out for a full write-up with all the photo evidence later this week).
Then yesterday, we launched the For Books’ Sake Lending Library at Northern Quarter cafe and creative hub, Nexus Art Cafe. We’ve whiled away many an hour of plotting and scheming in Nexus (accompanied by countless cups of tea and slices of cake, of course) and we’ll be back in July for our Mad Hatter’s Tea Party as part of Not Part Of Festival.
And yesterday we donated over a hundred books which will be freely available for the cafe’s customers to borrow, read and return. Featuring a mix of genres and both classic and contemporary authors, its shelves include everything from celebrity biography to fiction, poetry and short story collections, plus a nostalgia section with retro girls’ annuals, Judy Blume and even a Buffy annual or two.

We’ll be checking in over the next couple of weeks to see how it’s all going, but we also want to know what newfound literary loves readers have discovered on the lending library’s shelves.
So we’ve launched the For Books’ Sake forum so readers can compare notes, rant and rave about the books they’ve borrowed. And if you don’t live near enough to get involved, don’t despair.
Although the forum’s in soft launch at the moment, you can still sign up and have a natter about your reading recommendations, favourite fictional characters and any other bookish banter, and be assured that we’ve got lots of plans up our sleeves to do more with the forum over the next few weeks.
And if you live in Manchester, make sure you have a venture into Nexus next time you’re in town, and let us know what you think!
