Penguin Essentials

Penguin_Essentials_Clockwork_Orange

These swoonsome Penguin Essentials editions are published later this week. The series features ‘some of the twentieth century’s most important books‘ with gorgeous new illustrated covers. Illustrator Kristian Hammerstad designed this sinister and ultraviolent  cover for Anthony Burgess‘ dystopian classic, A Clockwork Orange.

Penguin_Essentials_Eva_Luna

Award-winning multimedia artist Elsa Mora designed this papercut-effect cover for Isabel Allende‘s story of orphan Eva Luna, while Kurt Vonnegut‘s classic Cat’s Cradle has been given a makeover by Amsterdam artist and illustrator Parra.

Penguin_Essentials_Cats_Cradle

Other iconic texts to be given a novel (pun intended) redesign include Jean Rhys’ Wide Sargasso Sea, Vladmir Nabokov‘s Lolita, Stella GibbonsCold Comfort Farm and Hunter S. Thompson‘s Hell’s Angels. And at only £5.99 each, you could even collect them all…

We’ve also managed to get our grubby mitts on a couple of copies from the new Penguin Essentials series, and we’ll be giving them away as prizes at next week’s pub quiz. You’ve got to be in it to win it, so get your team signed up soon!
