Penguin Day at Foyles
We had such a hoot at the Foyles Indie Alliance last weekend that we couldn’t resist telling you about Foyles‘ plans for next weekend too. Next Saturday 25th September, the Charing Cross Road branch will be celebrating Penguin‘s 75th birthday with an entire day of talks by authors, publishers and others in the industry about the iconic brand’s history, influence and future.
The day will include a session about the award-winning Penguin Classics series, looking at what constitutes a classic in the eyes of Classics Editorial Director Alexis Kirschbaum, as well as designer Coralie Bickford on the importance of what book covers look like. There will also be sessions about the role of non-fiction in the 21st century and how fiction reading habits have changed in recent years, as well as From Pitch to Publication, which will cover the ins and outs of the publishing process and feature Juliet Annan from Fig Tree Books alongside novelist Rebecca Hunt.
Tickets to Penguin Day cost from £12 from the Foyles website. We will be there on the day, so let us know if you’re planning to attend too so we can make sure we say hello. If you can’t make it, we’ll be scribbling up what we thought afterwards, so make sure you check back here the following week for the literary lowdown about what went on!
