Pulp Press Party

I’ve only just found out about Brighton-based publishers, Pulp Press, but I already seem to be developing something of an obsession. A contemporary publishers devoted to “the best and newest in pulp fiction, from hard boiled crime to rockabilly sleaze via a few Westerns and tales of delinquency,” they’re on a mission to dedicated to provide entertainment and escapism in the form of dime novels, penny dreadfuls and saucy stories that are accessible to everyone and printed in handy pocket-book format. For someone like me who swoons over classic pulp fiction depicting gangsters’ molls, card sharps, tattooed teddyboys and B-movie babes, they’re a revelation indeed.
And this Saturday, 24th April, they’re having their annual charity fundraiser and launch party. Taking place at the Horse Hospital near Russell Square in London from 6.30pm til late, the evening will include “no-holds-barred tales of sleaze, debauchery, horror and revenge.” It will be the launch of four new novellas from Pulp Press: Die Hard Mod by Charlie McQuaker, Let Me Die a Woman by Alan Kelly, The Windowlicker Maker by Danny Hogan and My Bloody Alibi by Dominic Milne. Readings from all four authors will be followed music, cabaret and burlesque by Bella De Jac, Bea de Vile, Miss Kitty Peels and DJ $auve. Tickets are only £8, with all proceeds going to the Combat Stress charity. Now, how do I wriggle my way out of that previous engagement I’ve already agreed to go to?
